These books will help me share my passion for reading with my students. These books will be used for novel studies with both in-person and at-home learners to create a sense of community and starting point for class discussions. Students connect with each other through the common experience of sharing the same story. I try to choose books that I've found connect with readers and challenge them to think of situations or individuals in new ways, overriding stereotypes and opening minds. For example, in James and the Giant Peach students learn to think of insects in a different way, as beneficial and with specific adaptations and roles in our environment. We discuss reading and comprehension skills as well as social and emotional concepts.
