These materials will give my students the opportunity to problem solve a variety of ways. By using materials to build, create, play with and move around with the children have the best opportunity to learn according to their learning styles. Children learn best through play and with these materials they won't even realize how much they are learning.
STEM activities give children a variety of modalities to learn from. Children can make choices on their own and try a variety of ways to make things work. I chose manipulatives that would be interesting to children. Things that they could try to replicate different structures or just make things in their own way. The lego sets have cards with pictures that show set by step ways to build mazes- this will help aide in both problem solving and prereading skills. I also really liked the design engineering centers, but it uses pictures of real things that they might see and have them build representations of those things. This year is especially exciting in that we are hoping we will all be back in the classrooms. So it will be helpful to have fun and exciting new things to play and learn with.
