Having flexible seating in our classroom allows my students to take charge of their own learning and make the choice of what seating will help them to learn best. During independent work times they get the opportunity to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, on the carpet with lap desk, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board, or sitting on the couch. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed big differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, they are more engaged, and they get their work done more than when just sitting at their tables. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The seating I have chosen is going to be a great tool that the students will have accessible to them! The cushions can be laid completely flat for when the students want to lay on the ground or they can be reclined up if they want to work upright at a table or just for reading a good book. The wobble stools are great because it allows students to wiggle while staying in their seat and not being disruptive. These seating option are easy to move around and can rotate around the room as needed or be switched out if a student prefers a chair that day. Flexible seating is versatile and has been proven to increase students focus and help with their posture.
