I focus on teaching literacy to develop skills that my students will need as they grow into true critical thinkers. It is pivotal for the continuation of our school's equity work that students are given a path into great literature written by authors of color. These texts will enable my students to engage in a close reading of a pivotal text by a visionary writer whose works have shaped modern literature, sharing a window into a post-slavery world of growth, conflict, love, and life in an authentic manner. I am so excited to lead them on this journey!
