The most magical part of first grade is getting to witness students first learn how to read! When readers begin to apply the foundational skills that they learn, they enter a world of literature that will change their lives forever. For some of our more reluctant beginning readers, sometimes it just takes the perfect book to welcome them into the lifelong journey of being a reader. These texts will help pique student's interest in reading and provide high-quality texts to teach reading comprehension. In order to best prepare students to be successful not just in first grade, but in their reading careers, a solid foundation of both foundational skills (phonics, rhyming, etc.) and comprehension is needed. These texts will help support the teaching of various comprehension skills such as understanding characters, making predictions, identifying the problem and solution in a text, and asking and answering questions as they read. Thank you for considering a donation to support the first grade students at our elementary school as they kick-off their lifelong journey of becoming readers!
