My students love to be challenged and engaged. They always try to do what is asked of them. Having these materials will help my students begin to think about how math and science are closely tied together. It will get them thinking about how to engineer and design without fear of making a mistake or failing. The whole focus will be on creating and exploring. Thinking spatially can be a challenge for young students. This project will help my students be able to recognize how shapes and objects can fit together and be taken apart. It will give them control of the creative and engineering process an allow them to make changes to their projects to strengthen and improve their design. This project is to support my students in free and exploratory play. Many students don't engage in this kind of play anymore because of lack of money or supplies as well as a draw to electronics that often takes its place. Supporting this project will be supporting young minds as they grow, explore, create and manipulate. They will also be used as "incentives" to complete work that requires more focus and attention. It will encourage them to get their work done so they can engage in play that strengthens them in math and STEM reasoning.
