The two elementary music classrooms in our district have not been re-organized in several decades. With your help, I can uncover instruments and manipulatives (physical objects used for hands-on learning) from the back of the closets and rearrange them so they are more accessible to children in the music room. Right now, so many musical instruments are shoved tightly into cabinets and mislabeled that it is impossible to know what we have and impractical to get out supplies during class time. This project will help us make the best use of the materials past teachers have spent time and money procuring and will enrich music class for the children by exposing them to a greater variety of instruments, activities, and sounds. Materials requested: - Tall weave baskets (to hold K-2 instruments such as tambourines, egg shakers, triangles, maracas, finger cymbals, and guiros) - Rainbow duct tape (for labeling and color coding) - Adhesive hooks (to hang hand drums on the wall for easy access) - Letter size storage trays (each will hold different staff paper and rhythm boards along with the whiteboard markers and other objects used for these activities) - Heavy duty mounting tape (to mount DIY ukulele racks I am making, see: http://www.shelbibusche.com/diy-storage) - Multipurpose labels (to label xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels that are stored in cabinets) - Neon cable ties (to attach paper labels to the tall weave baskets, and to hold mallets with their corresponding Orff instruments)
