Second only to outdoor recess, my students' favorite part of the day is station time. The kiddos move to various spots around the room to explore ideas and practice their skills. It is imagination driven and student led. This year I am creating a new area, the Information Station, with 13 themed tubs to choose from. Each tub will include several non-fiction books and a learning kit centered around toys that inspire my students to wonder and think more deeply. With the ocean bin they can use the viewfinder to observe 3D pictures, examine plastic ocean animals or sort seashells. In the human body bin they will find books with vocabulary describing their bodies and a vest with velcro parts to see how it all fits inside us. The items on my wish list, combined with other items I have on hand, will give my students many choices. I predict it will be our new favorite station!
