We teach students with low prevalence disabilities such as; deafness, down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, etc in a public school. Our students range from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Six of our students cannot communicate verbally. They struggle to get their wants and needs met because of their lack in communication. All of our students need visual aids for receptive communication. Pictures are imperative for all of our students’ understanding and comprehension. If what they want is not visually present, this ends with tears of frustration because they cannot get their request understood.
