Children learn by doing. They gain knowledge from exploration. By seeing examples of real world objects, they grow their vocabulary. When they practice letter sounds, it helps to hold an object to make that word or sound concrete. By sorting objects, they can decipher one letter sound from another. When we are learning our weekly letters, I will show the items in the tub and then we will use our letter knowledge to print those words on our whiteboards or on a sentence strip in a pocket chart. When our lesson is complete, the tubs can be conveniently stored in the storage rack until we need them next.
