In one way or another, we have ALL felt the impacts of COVID - 19. I have seen first hand the impact COVID - 19 has had on the overall social - emotional well being of my students due to school closures, social distancing and confinement. These restrictions have caused an increase in student anxiety and stress due to a reduction of vital family and care services. Now more than ever it is important to focus on social emotional learning, which emphasizes acquiring and applying the knowledge, skills and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and establish and maintain supportive relationships. The books included in this project will help me create a learning environment that is built upon trust, kindness, collaboration and mutual respect in order to thrive as learners in the classroom and citizens within the community.
