Students will be gifted their own personal copy of The Outsiders that they can annotate and keep forever. We'll read the book together each day, and then when we're done with the book in class, they'll have a keepsake of their efforts. Many of my Title 1 students find that reading is challenging and not worth the effort; I want to show them differently. They are worthy of reading the words on the page, they should feel the excitement of finding out what happens next. They need to know that a whole world of literacy is waiting for them, they just need to take the first step.

About my class
