While our incoming first graders continue to learn the phonics skills needed to become successful readers, they will need books to practice these skills. Decodable readers allow children to apply the phonics skills they have learned. These readers encourage students to decode words instead of guessing. These decodable readers also allow for the development of reading accuracy and fluency. Our first grade students deserve to feel successful as they read! These decodable readers will allow for this feeling of success. Decodable readers are controlled texts that follow a sequence of skills that align to what we will be teaching to our incoming first graders. We can reinforce what was taught through these readers. By having sets of decodable readers, we can match students to the skills they need to practice.
