This spring, I have been reading 'Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics,' and it has given me revolutionary ideas to try with my students. The author uses research findings to list definitive changes that can be made in a classroom to increase students' thinking and problem solving skills. Research shows that students are more willing to tackle more difficult problems if they are working in groups on vertical, non-permanent surfaces (like dry erase boards). I plan to hang these dry erase boards on a bare wall in my classroom, so that I have enough space for students to work in groups of 3-4 students.
