As a first year teacher, my classroom is pretty bland and this just can't quite satisfy any eager 2nd grade student or teacher. I want to make my classroom a place where students WANT to be . An easy way to begin this is by finding seats that students don't dread sitting in. Flexible seating is proven by research to help students and teachers keep everyone engaged and comfortable. Some of the material and seating I requested, namely the wobble chairs and fidget toys, are just subtle enough to keep students' bodies occupied so their brain can learn. Others will help me to define specific areas of the room, such as a teacher-student work place and independent reading areas. I also want to have students more engaged in class through the use of a listening center. I have all of the components except the actual read aloud books. I chose books that I knew my students would love and can read along with the audio. This will be such a helpful way to grow my little readers in both their ability and passion for literature.
