In most math and reading lessons we start with whole group teaching then break into small groups. Small group instruction usually follows whole group instruction to reinforce or reteach specific skills and concepts and provides a reduced student-teacher ratio. Small groups typically range in size from four to six students and allows me to really identify students who are grasping concepts and students who need more support with specific topics. Having a table to work with the small group really allows me to see the students and their work all at the same time. It creates a small community within the classroom while we are working together in those moments.
