I want to expand my classroom library to include a calm down corner where students can go to take a moment to relax and refocus if they are feeling overwhelmed or upset. Socio-emotional learning is an important and often overlooked part of the school, and I believe explicitly teaching my students how to calm themselves down will make them more successful learners. Students will learn to regulate their own emotions by coloring, listening to music or a book, reading, playing with calming fidget toys, using noise-canceling headphones, and doing stretching and breathing exercises.
