Chapter books are an essential next step in student reading. It makes students learn about sticking with something to the end and makes them remember information for longer periods of time. This kind of determination is best introduced with high level interest books! These books would be to read to the whole class and then keep them in our bookshelf for students to check out for home or school reading.
Imagine how fun reading can be when you are fighting crime along side beloved characters such as Dog Man, Mercy Watson, or Princess Magnolia? Usually when I purchase books, I can only afford one of each series. With your help, I can purchase at least 4 of each series. When students read more than one book in a series they develop a lot of good reader skills. They can hear and learn repetitive vocabulary across the series. It is easier to remember information when it is commonly reintroduced. This allows students of all different levels to succeed and maintain interest. Children are more likely to have fun character voices and smoother reading skills when they stick with the same characters. I would like a variety of popular series, because you never know which a class might enjoy. I’m excited to hear the fun voices they make for the cute pig hero, Mercy Watson or the silly Dory Fantasmagory.
