After getting to know my students virtually for a year, I can definitely tell you that they are bundles of energy! From bouncing on the couch to sitting outside on the ground, they were constantly changing their seating arrangements throughout the year. Needless to say there never was a dull moment while learning on Zoom! I really am looking forward to meeting their needs this year while we are in-person. One part of learning at home that my students will really miss this year is having flexible seating options. My students learned best last year when sitting in the comfiest places of their homes, such as the floor and even their beds! Research has shown that flexible seating empowers students by letting them choose a spot that will work best for their learning. Many young children go their entire school careers sitting in rigid desks and chairs with no way to get their energy out, thus causing several behavioral problems. I can speak first hand as a wiggly kid/adult myself that we NEED more seating options in our classrooms! Please help to empower my students by giving them the choice of how they would like to learn and succeed.
