Covid has robbed our children of so much this year, especially their schooling. Math is already a subject that a lot of students struggle with and are uneasy about. Having to learn math through a computer screen was rough on a lot of students. My goal is to create an environment that brings comfort and joy to students as soon as they walk in. No more math anxiety. Instead of rows of your typical desks with the chairs connected, I want to offer a cafe type of set up with dining room or kitchen tables, bar stools, office chairs and flexible seating options for those who need it. Every year I have a lot of students who have ADHD or ADD. Having flexible seating options like a wobble stool where they can get some of that energy out will really help students focus in class. When students walk into the Moore Math Lounge (aka my classroom), I want them to immediately know that this is not your typical math class. This is a place where everyone CAN do math. This is a place where you have options to learn in the way that best suits you. This is a place where you can feel comfortable, safe and at ease.
