It is important for first graders to have alternate locations from their desks to increase engagement. I would love to have a rug to help students alternate from desks to rug for more close listening. Stools at the kidney table help kids to be a little higher and see the reading material better. Again, it is all about keeping them engaged and changing positions to decrease tiredness. We are doing more phonemic awareness and sound boxes to push chips that are blue for the consonants and red for the vowel sounds. This visual and motion can be very helpful to help students recognize and take note of the sounds in the words.
