My students are unique for many reasons, one of which is that they are in the beginning stages of learning English. As high school students, many of the texts available to them are way above their English reading levels; these texts also do not often share stories that resonate with my students' lived experiences. I am striving to create a classroom library with texts that are of high interest and relevance to my students, while also being at an appropriate reading level. Students will use these texts during English and English Language Development classes to strengthen their English language skills, as well as grow in their reading comprehension skills. These texts will also be utilized during small groups to provide reading interventions at appropriate levels to students who are at the earliest stages of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English.
