This collection of books will be used to build a rich SEL unit at the beginning of the school year. I will be using these books the first two weeks of school and have different activities planned as well as class discussions for each one. After we are done with the unit, they will go into our class library for students to check out and used the following years. Each book has an important message of children who have overcome challenges, providing lessons to readers from the perspectives a diverse group of characters. The learning goal for this unit is to build a strong class community where everyone feels loved, included, and classmates support each other's emotional health.
