The supplies I have requested will be used in the classroom to engage my students and to deepen their understanding. I like to use the markers, watercolors, and gel pens to create extensions to the topics we are learning about. The special papers provide an inexpensive canvass for the paint, markers and gel pens. The folders are used to store the art and any other curriculum related to the topic. Using art provides a different and fun learning experience for some students who may struggle. For example, I have a unit on Outer Space. We study the planets (Science), sort by size and distance from the sun (Math), and we write opinion notes or facts about the planets (Writing) and of course we are reading about all of the interesting facts. In the end we create an art project and paste it on the front of the folder. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful learning.
