I will be moving down from my fifth-grade classroom to a kindergarten classroom and am in need of classroom resources. We have currently already identified 17 students with special needs that will be entering our campus’ kindergarten classrooms. I will be able to use my eight years of first-grade experience and three years of my special-education experience to help meet each of these students’ needs. In order to do this I plan to use whole-group learning charts while utilizing hands-on activities throughout our whole-group learning in order to slowly develop these skills into successful pair-and-share and independent practice! Many of these items can not only be utilized during whole-group learning by practicing through pair-and-share, but can also be taken by the student to independently practice these skills for additional reinforcement. The following list provides the requested items and purposes:
MATH
Number of the Day Chart: To provide whole-group instruction for students to learn how to represent numbers in different ways. This will be incorporated with my Learning Carpet and can be taught for demonstration and reinforcement while also using the following hands-on activities - Hands-on Math Trays, Magnetic Numbers, and Building Math Skills Write/ Wipe Boards.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Giant Magnetic Early Writing Page, Circle Time Learning Center, All About Letters Pocket Chart: To provide whole-group instruction for students to learn word formations and sentence building, daily/ calendar objectives, and different components of letters. These objectives will be reinforced by also using Touch Read CVC Match and LEGO Letters.
Repetitive demonstration is vital while encouraging students to be an active part of the learning process by incorporating physical, hands-on learning. All students learn through various ways. These items will allow all students to receive instruction through effective visual, audio, reading/ writing, and kinesthetic learning.
