The students who will use these adaptive materials are always smiling and eager to learn. They cannot speak or communicate verbally and have so much potential. Students with speech delays often have a lot to communicate but lack the ability or the equipment to share their thoughts. Once I had a student in my class who could not talk, it was assumed that the student could not read. When I offered the student letters that made sounds, the student showed us that he could spell words like "car," "jet," "black," etc. He had been listening to the lessons and soaking it all in. He just did not have the equipment to communicate to the teachers and other adults that he knew how to read and write some words. With these adaptive materials, my students will now be making their own choices, learning about cause and effect, and using the computer to access PowerPoint books, music, or other cause and effect games.
