My students don't always have access to a good role model. So these books are important because the stories within these books can inspire and encourage greatness out of kids as they learn and read about how others overcame hardships and persevered. These books will also provide students with the opportunity to engage in stories that shine into other cultures and history. The various books in this list represent diversity that our curriculum doesn't always shine upon. I will be reading these books aloud to my class and insighting discussion. We will talk about the history, social structures, and relationships amongst people to promote understanding and acceptance.
