I am requesting the opportunity to attend a professional development conference in the area of social-emotional development for young children and their teachers. This conference will allow me to gain new strategies for teaching social-emotional learning that I can support preschool through second-grade teachers in utilizing. I am confident that the knowledge I will gain from this conference will help me to become an even more effective social-emotional learning coach, and will allow me to pass this knowledge onto teachers and professionals working closely with students. The knowledge I will attain from this experience will benefit my students for years to come. Social-emotional learning is the foundation of all learning and what allows us to be good community members and loving family members. Research demonstrates that developing these skills in children improves their academic and social outcomes as well as reduces community costs and increases community health. Regular, explicit SEL instruction delivered by classroom teachers is an important component to school-wide SEL and the development of individual children. This training will further allow me to support teachers and other staff members in delivering this instruction to all children.
