Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Our school is known for personalized learning and students collaborate daily to learn specific skills or while working on projects. With these items, during independent work time or group collaboration time, students would have the ability to choose a location in the classroom that works best for them. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. “Giving students the space they need to accommodate their learning modalities can make an enormous difference in the way they learn and behave” (Novelli, 1997. My students are noticeably more motivated and engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. I have noticed these differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating; however, currently I have very few options, so that is why I am asking for the furniture, wobble seats, and lap desks. The students almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desks. The wobble seats will allow movement while they use them to sit on the floor at the coffee tables. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. Choice in seating can positively affect my students work and demeanor, plus these additional options will help us in community building and collaboration. Most importantly, developing people skills and learning to work more collaboratively will greatly help my students the rest of their lives.
