I believe speech activities should match NY State academic themes while being engaging and inclusive to my students. The selected books have school grade concepts presented at a reading level many of my students are functioning as. The books I used focused on Social Studies and English, including themes on: refugees, black history, the great depression, perspectives, coronaviruses, agriculture, and voices of adversity. My goal is to have these books provide opportunities to produce verbal narratives based on illustrations and use the books themes to focus on academic language, vocabulary, sentence structure, and concepts they are being expected to comprehend.
