My students are curious and kind and want to read and talk about how justice does and does not work in the world. They deserve the opportunity to read contemporary pieces, both fiction and non-fiction; we have little access to newer literature. I can foresee my students reading this book and creating their own stories about how they perceive the world and how the world perceives them. Having books in print encourages students to read together in class as well as at home, independently. I firmly believe that a student who reads will be an adult who thinks!
