The easel will be used daily for whole group work and so much more! I am excited to get back to story time (carpet time) where my students and I can come together and listen to a read aloud and share and discuss the story. Kids love stories and I love to read them with lots of expressions and try to make them come alive. I stop throughout the book and share personal experiences and/or have them share some of their own experiences. Students also like to do think-pair-share. Hands-on is a great way for students to learn, so they will have the opportunity to come up and build the weekly vocabulary word/s using magnetic letters and then write the word/s. We will build to more complex writing as the year goes on and they are learning about writing sentences. First, I will be explicitly teaching and modeling how to correctly write a sentence. Every sentence begins with a capital letter, spaces between words, and punctuation mark at the end of a sentence. Next, we will do one together, where they will come up and correct the sentence, and gradually release them to correcting the sentence on their own for an assessment check.
