I am requesting your support to purchase a class set of student sized ball chairs for my 3rd grade classroom. Students have a natural need to move and expend energy; why can't they do it each day at school in the classroom? According to occupational therapist Sally Geerling, "The ability to pay attention increases when given the opportunity to move. These seats (exercise balls) give children tactile stimulation while they are working on balance, assisting their brains to be ready to learn" (Grandville Public Schools Board of Education, 2007). The students of today are a generation that struggles with attention spans, technology distractions, and increased difficulty sitting still. While there is a time and place for learning with large motor activities, many times students still need to be working at their desks. By funding this project, you will be helping my students, year after year, improve their focus when sitting at their desks in the classroom. I have requested the stationary ball chairs, because of the age of the students I work with. Chairs stay safely at desks and student focus improves. This gives me the greatest opportunity to help my students grow academically when they need to be at their desks in large group settings. Will you please help me help my students?
