Science is centered on helping students engage with the world they live in through questions and explorations. To engage and explore the world as a scientists, students need access to tools to help them do this. They need everyday tools - paper to record ideas and observations and Clorox wipes to keep their lab areas clean. They need specific tools - owl pellets to discuss how energy moves in an ecosystem; a lava lamp to explore how heat can moves through convection; a globe to explain biomes and climates around the world. With these tools, these sixth grade scientists can better explore the world because they have tangible examples and evidence they can observe in the classroom with them.
