Dramatic play is such a crucial area of the preschool classroom. Children who are often on guard because of home situations will often relax in this area as they use their imagination to create. This area fosters many conversations between peers as well as between the teacher and child. Almost every skill can be worked on in this area including language, literacy (we often use menus and take food orders on clipboards), math (measuring ingredients with measuring utensils), and cognitive (planning and preparation). It truly is the heart of the classroom. Our kitchen has lost a faucet, handles, and doors, etc.
