This classroom incentive program will not only motivate students to show respect, make good decisions, and solve problems in our classroom community on a daily basis, but it will also tie into our writing and science curriculum. Each day students will earn and save Rescue Raider bucks to purchase a desk pet and other pet accessories from the classroom pet store. Once they have purchased their pet, they will research its location on the globe/habitat, physical and behavioral adaptations, role in the food chain etc. Students will then be provided with a special container in which they create the perfect habitat for their desk pet and then write an informational report about their desk pet which touches on the information they learned from conducting research both online and in our school library. Later in the year, they will be asked to used their desk pets as the subject for opinion and narrative writing as well. I am excited to introduce this new incentive program to our students and generate engagement in key areas of the curriculum: character education, writing, and science.
