I chose books and materials that would support the following learning objectives and goals: * help children identify and express emotions * write and reflect on their experiences and emotions * provide opportunities for discussion * teach and model positive interactions among peers/ adults * build community in our classroom I always spend time teaching social emotional skills throughout the school year but this year I feel that I really want to emphasize social emotional skills and integrate lessons more intentionally. I believe this is really important since it has been a challenging year for our students and families. It is my plan to use the books and journals in lessons that explore feelings and the daily struggles of being in 1st grade. I will read the books and have children reflect and respond to the book in their journals. I requested several tools to help children identify and express emotions, I will sue these during our Morning Meetings and throughout the day.
