Research has proven that special education students benefit from a small group environment that allows for drawing models and moving math manipulatives to problem solve. This learning would take place during differentiated instructions in order to meet the needs of every student. By creating these models and using these manipulatives, my students are far more likely to retain the content being taught when reaching those valuable "aha" moments in their learning process. Providing a dry erase table in my classroom for small groups to gather would guarantee more student engagement than constant pencil-paper guided instructions.
