The 7th grade students focus on a thematic idea of identity over the course of the school year. Different aspects of identity formation are focuses on from perspective, circumstance, home, etc. For the month of October I want to use Coraline as an anchor text to look at the 21st Century Monster Theory. Students will be able to use Coraline as their aid while they create their own spooky story, focusing on an "other" or "monster" in their writing while addressing the reasons that the monster theory is so popular in society currently.
