Calming, neutral colors will create a warm and inviting atmosphere to promote a feeling of safety and security. Fluorescent lights will be muted by light diffusers. An essential oil diffuser will also be used to help create that calming environment. Printable materials from Teachers Pay Teachers will be used throughout the classroom. These will include decor to promote positive feelings and encouragement. Pillows and sensory items will also be used in a designated calming space where students can get a break away from their learning environment for a brief period of time to help support self-regulation. Book about emotions will also help with identifying those emotions, which is also necessary for successful self-regulation skills.
