Books are magic and students deserve to take part in that magic. My school does not currently have a library so students come to my class to borrow books from my personal classroom library. I would love to expand my library to give my students more reading choices in the classroom for independent reading. There are students at my school that are looking for people like them in books and this is my opportunity to help them find themselves in literature. Representations is so important and there are students at my school who need a place to go to be able to read about their own experiences in a safe and enriching environment. My students are a diverse group that love to see themselves in literature and these books will be an opportunity for them to read books they can relate to. These books will help my students become better readers and become more empathetic human beings.
