I'm a brand new guidance counselor looking to supply my office with books and tools to create engaging guidance lessons for my elementary students! I love using mentor texts as a way to start classroom discussions! The students are engaged in the story and it will almost always lead to a student wanting to share about a similar situation. Their story will guide us into a class discussion on our topic. For the past year, our school has been without a guidance counselor. In a "normal" year, that would have been hard. In an unusual year, like last year, that was really hard. The kids were amazing through it all, but now I want to provide them with engaging guidance lessons to help give them the coping skills they need to better themselves for the future. This can be done not only through weekly classroom lessons, but also by providing students with some additional tools for self regulation in the classroom.
