The family is the first community a child experiences, but the classroom is the next! An area rug gives students the comfortable space to grow powerful two-way communication and empathy skills while developing as young citizens. Science also shows us that listening comprehension is vital to the reading process. My students currently have small carpet circles which seem to be too small for them. I spend too much time promoting proper behavior with the circles so that they aren’t played with and moved around. I look forward to gathering on a rug that can’t be moved!
