These making materials will provide my hands-on learners in my English classes with materials to prototype their innovative solutions to local problems on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii. My students are primarily boys in grades 10-12 who love hands-on learning. They are less enthusiastic about their English class. So to get these students engaged in developing their research, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, I've adopted a Design Thinking framework for all language activities. Students choose one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, then research this problem area around the world. They then turn their attention to related local problems and use their creative and critical thinking skills to brainstorm innovative solutions. Students then need lots of materials to prototype their solutions. That's where these materials come in. Mahalo for helping my students to become creative problem-solvers (and effective communicators in the process)!
