My school uses KinderLiteracy by Tara West for our comprehension/literacy instruction. I am a new first-year teacher and do not have the materials needed to teach this curriculum. This project would provide me with the books and resources to give my students a literacy-rich environment that will provide the children multicultural experiences. During each unit (1 week), we go over two books. We talk about the subject (what we know), specific vocabulary in the book, and compare the books; all to build their comprehension. If this project was funded, I could better teach the curriculum. This program has been so good in teaching comprehension and vocabulary (two components needed for a skilled reader).
