As the school counselor for four different grade levels, I see various student needs that need to be met on a regular basis. The items I am requesting for my students are not the typical items you may think will affect their learning. T-shirts, underwear, and socks all seem like non academic things when considered by themselves, but for middle school students they actually go hand-in-hand. At our school, we have several students living in poverty or close to it. This means many students do not have the capability to wash their clothes appropriately. Many times they are wearing dirty, stained, too small, or too large clothing because they are limited to the resources they have at home. At the middle school age, students have so many issues they are already juggling: hormones, changing bodies, learning social skills, adapting to a rigorous academic climate, etc. I do not want my students unable to focus in class because they are worried their friends will noticed they've worn the same pants all week. I hope you can help us provide shirts, socks, pants, and underwear to our students that need them. At CMS we strive to show our students that they are loved and we care about them no matter what. Any support in helping with this project is greatly appreciated!
