Working in a 4th-grade special education classroom is a joy, and I would love to instill a love of reading in my students who have had such negative experiences with reading in the past. Due to my students' reading and ability levels, many books that have been given to my classroom are low-level/ low interest and often are viewed as being too "babyish" for my students. This project will help provide more low-level/high interest for my students to read. I work as a 5th-grade special education teacher in a predominantly low-income, rural area. My student's abilities range from early kindergarten to almost grade level, with various disability categories included. With this project, I am hopeful that this will instill a love of reading that will carry past instruction in the classroom for my students. It will also help increase their reading ability level and expand skills in all of the subject areas.
