Often we find that students don’t enjoy reading or struggle to find a book they enjoy. Education has started to turn away from traditional children’s novels and more towards reading passages to prepare students for standardized tests. This last year I started book clubs with my students and introduced children’s classic novels with them. It was such a rewarding experience to see them at the edge of their seats as they turned the pages of their novels. With this donation I will have a broader variety of novels to provide my students and offer them more choices to help build their interests in books. I will be using the books during our guided reading for novel book studies. I have also included several Social Studies books for students. An important tool for Social Studies research has been cut from our funding, and my goal is to provide some additional reading to help buffer some of that gap this next year. Please support students in building a love for reading and history!
