I'm working to create a warm and welcoming mental health classroom. Students will use this space when they are dysregulated and needing extra help. I'm hoping to use these tools to create a calm area to support them. We all need a little calm space! These items will help me to create a space for my students to reset and get ready to go back to the classroom. It's important to have items in the classroom to help them reach this goal. Many students struggle with sensory problems and having alternative lighting and seating can help them stay more regulated and able to focus. When addressing emotional issues with elementary-age students, it's important to be age-appropriate and support them where they are at. Using bibliotherapy is a great way to do this! It helps to show and discuss areas where a student is struggling without them having the self-awareness to know this is a problem for them.
