While most of my students love science, many become overwhelmed by the mathematical calculations that come along with it. Having a calculator would help lesson this anxiety and allow students to apply formulas they are learning. Unfortunately, the majority of my students can't afford a decent calculator and have to resort to using their cellphones, which can provide much distraction during class. These scientific calculators will be used by my chemistry and biology students everyday to conquer this anxiety while solving tasks and problems as a team. Here groups members begin to learn the roles and methods that future scientists and mathematicians use in college and beyond. Having a basic tool like a scientific calculator would allow students to not simply solve problems, but to model problems as well as use real numbers and data that require computation.
